Sport at Mount Kelly School Hong Kong
At Mount Kelly School Hong Kong, we aim to provide a sporting environment where by every pupil has the opportunity to achieve their potential. We want each pupil to find a sport they enjoy enough to pursue after leaving school. We strive for excellence both in performance and attitude, and cater for everyone – regardless of ability – by providing first class coaching, facilities and opportunities to train and compete.
The sport we provide at Mount Kelly is the aspect of our curriculum concerned with the development of physical skills, knowledge and understanding in a range of sports, activities and outdoor pursuits. The main focus is on allowing all of our pupils to achieve enjoyment, success and fulfilment at their level.
At the heart of our framework are our core values; Respect, Commitment, Teamwork, Sportsmanship and Humility. We pride ourselves on the ability to learn from every sporting experience and enjoying sport across the school.
Sport at Mount Kelly School Hong Kong ensures that all pupils are active and can find enjoyment in physical activity, while promoting a healthy lifestyle and good posture. Pupils are taught to develop a positive attitude in sport, where they learn fair play and sporting behaviour, and to learn to cope with both success and failure. Pupils are encouraged to realise the importance of Sport, so that they can continue to participate in physical activity after they leave the school.
Our pupils are offered a fantastic range of opportunities throughout our games programme where they receive a PE, Games and Swimming session each week. For the City campuses – Prep School and Preschool, we utilise the Kings Park sporting facilities, which are conveniently situated close to both school sites: https://www.kingspark.com.hk/
Each form in the Prep School has a P.E. lesson, a swimming lesson and one Games session every week throughout the year. All pupils participate in the Shackleton Programme for a day session each month, where they participate in a variety of challenging outdoor adventurous pursuits.
There is a busy after school clubs programme where children have the opportunity to join sporting activities. There are further opportunities in sport to represent the School Teams and to join squad training after School. Pupils are selected based upon skill, attitude and commitment to represent the school.
Each child will also compete as a member of a School House for regular sporting events, such as a Swimming Gala and a Sports Day. There is Prep School Sports Day and also a Preschool Sports Day. These are held once a year in the Summer Term.
In the Preschool, pupils will take part in gross motor play every day. Twice a week they will have a PE and Games lesson in the form of team games and focussed physical development activities. If children are enrolled in the Preschool Enrichment programme they will have the opportunity to take part in team sports and swimming lessons throughout the year. During the summer months, all Preschool pupils will have a weekly swimming lesson.
